Gursewak Singh was born and raised in Japan in the Matsudo-Chiba prefecture, a quiet suburban town east of Tokyo. His parents moved here over 20 years ago to escape religious persecution after his father was falsely accused in a criminal case, and tortured by the local police. Now 18 years later he is still identified by the Japanese government as a refugee while repeatedly being denied asylum in order to get the entire family deported. Without access to basic needs such as health insurance or a work permit, Gursewak and his parents continue to bear the burden without receiving justice. They have never left Japan due to their situation. Below is their story. |
Gursewak wants to become a web developer some day and has been accepted by his dream school, the Digital Hollywood Universityin Japan. With your support in the past, UNITED SIKHS has been supporting Gursewak’s family for a long time now. With lack of support from the government and no permission to work while residing in this country, we request your support again to help him pursue an education. |
Gursewak’s first year of university is expected to cost about 1,000,000 YEN (or 10,000 USD). You can support Gursewak by donating at either the UNITED SIKHS website or this You Caring fundraiser page. UNITED SIKHS will use every penny they receive to support Gursewak’s education and to provide better living conditions for him during this period. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to your generous help. You can contact us at contact@unitedsikhs.org for any queries regarding Gursewak’s case or more. |
Gursewak Singh graduated today, 9th March 2018 from high school and needs to start college in April 2018. They thank you all for your support. |
Sincerely, |
The Japanese Sikh Community along with United Sikhs |
