Washington D.C. – This time next week UNITED SIKHS staff, volunteers & youth activists will be addressing the biggest issues facing the Sikh community with some of the most powerful people in our nation.
During the 2017 Sikh SUMMIT, July 10th – 14th, youth activists from across the United States will gather to meet with lawmakers in Washington, DC. We will kick off the 2017 SUMMIT with a discussion on hate crimes and violence. Other issues include (but are not limited to) the 2020 Census and public policies that have a disparate impact on the Sikh community’s basic civil and human rights. Educating policy leaders and congressmen on countries failing to safeguard the human rights of the minorities.
This is a final call more students and young professionals to join us for the Advocacy & Humanitarian Aid Academy (AHAA). Seats are filling up!!
The Academy will be held in conjunction with the 2017 SIKH SUMMIT. Academy students will participate in discussions with lawmakers as well as workshops conducted by qualified speakers including acclaimed professors, government officials, and advocates. Former AHAA graduates credit the training academy for providing them with career-building connections and unparalleled education.
“UNITED SIKHS’ Academy offers students like myself invaluable experience with the American legal system, with Sikh advocacy, and with self-efficacy. AHAA continues to inspire me as I shoulder responsibilities beyond my age, thereby gaining substantial skills for my career and growing as a Sikh professional,” AHAA Graduate Sarbjot Kaur said.
AHAA is open to anyone over 17 years old looking to get involved in social justice advocacy for the Sikh community, relief aid work, education and/or healthcare initiatives.
