Australian Sikhs Stand for Peace, Justice, and the Protection of All

Australia | December 14, 2025

The Sikh community in Australia is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life at the horrific mass shooting that took place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, during a Hanukkah celebration. This senseless act of violence, which has claimed the lives of at least 16 people and injured dozens more, has been declared a terrorist incident by authorities.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Sydney and worldwide. The attack, deliberately targeting a peaceful gathering celebrating faith and community, is a stark reminder of the urgent need to defend the fundamental rights of all people to worship freely and live without fear.

Violence against innocent people has no place in Australia. Our nation is built on the shared belief that every person deserves to feel safe in public spaces and protected under the law. When this sense of safety is violated, it impacts all Australians.

“Sikhism unequivocally condemns all acts of terror and violence. The founder of Sikh faith Guru Nanak Saheb taught that there is no place for hatred, fear, or division in humanity, and that we must recognise the oneness of all people. Guided by these teachings and the principle of seva, the Sikh community stands in solidarity with the victims, their families, and all those affected. We reaffirm our commitment to compassion, justice, and peace, and to standing together against hatred in all its forms.” – Gurvinder Singh (National Director UNITED SIKHS Australia).

Violence against any community is violence against humanity. UNITED SIKHS reaffirms its commitment to protecting human rights, dignity, and freedom of belief. We call upon governments, civil society, and faith leaders to unite against hatred and extremism, and to ensure that places of worship and communal gatherings remain sanctuaries of peace.

As an international humanitarian and advocacy organization, UNITED SIKHS has long stood against acts of terror and discrimination. Today, we join voices across the globe in demanding justice, accountability, and renewed efforts to safeguard communities from targeted violence.

An attack on innocent people is an attack on our shared humanity. We call on all Australians to stand together to reject hatred, uphold justice, and protect the dignity and safety of every person.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, survivors, their families, and the first responders who acted with courage and care. The Sikh community in Australia remains committed to peace, service, and working together to build a safe, and united Australia for all.
