UNITED SIKHS legal team retained to represent Nirmal Singh Ji Pro-Bono in both the Immigration and Criminal Cases
Dear Supporters,
Sardar Nirmal Singh was walking around 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 95th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in Richmond Hill when a stranger punched the elderly man in the nose. This blow to the face left 70-year-old Sardar Nirmal Singh bleeding uncontrollably as he was rushed to the hospital. Police are investigating this incident as a possible hate crime.
The UNITED SIKHS legal team immediately reached Sardar Nirmal Singh Ji and signed him up at 9:30 am EST (on April 4th) for both the criminal and immigration cases (pro bono). Our advocacy team is in communication with the United States Department of Justice and has also filed a complaint with the New York State Hate Crimes Task Force. Our legal team is thankful to S. Gurdev Singh Kang (also New York city Human Rights commissioner) from the committee of Sikh Cultural Society of Richmond Hill for facilitating this meeting. Senior community leaders Harpreet Singh Toor and Jatiinder Singh Boparai were present during this process.
Although Nirmal Singh Ji’s body is frail, and he was in a lot of pain making it difficult to speak, Nirmal singh softly let out words, “My gratitude to UNITED SIKHS”. Nirmal Singh Ji’s body was trembling, his voice was shaking, and his eyes were wet, as he thanked UNITED SIKHS for holding his hand in his time of need.
Be fearless in your faith. If you or anyone you know has been the victim of a hate crime, reach out to our legal team at law-usa@unitedsikhs.org.
